HOW KAZAKHSTAN CAN BUILD A NEXT-GENERATION NUCLEAR INDUSTRY: AIDA PARTICIPATED IN POWEREXPO ALMATY 2026
ALMATY, OCTOBER 22, 2026. THE DEVELOPMENT OF NUCLEAR ENERGY IS NOT ONLY ABOUT CONSTRUCTING A NUCLEAR POWER PLANT.
It is about creating an entire technological ecosystem — from scientific research and specialist training to equipment manufacturing and the development of a national supply chain.
These issues were at the center of the strategic session “Nuclear Power in Kazakhstan: International Cooperation, Technology, and Localisation”, held in Almaty as part of the PEA 2026 business program.
The session was moderated by Azmaganbetova Zhannur, Deputy Executive Director of the Atomic Industry Development Association (AIDA). Representatives of scientific organizations, the nuclear industry, international companies, and Kazakhstani businesses took part in the discussion.
One of the key topics was localization — an issue directly related to the role that domestic enterprises will be able to play in the implementation of Kazakhstan’s future nuclear projects.
The participants discussed international experience in the construction and operation of nuclear power plants, the involvement of technology partners, supplier requirements, the development of engineering competencies, and opportunities for Kazakhstani companies to enter the nuclear industry supply chains. Particular attention was paid to personnel training and the development of the necessary professional competencies.
The participants included representatives of the Institute of Nuclear Physics, Nuclear Society of Kazakhstan, Assystem in Kazakhstan, KNPP LLP, National Nuclear Center of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Almaty Branch of MEPhI and AIDA.
For AIDA, this discussion became another platform for bringing together representatives of business, science, and the nuclear industry around practical issues of its development.
“It is important for us that the development of nuclear energy creates opportunities not only for large international companies, but also for Kazakhstani businesses. Localization should mean the emergence of new production facilities, technologies, engineering competencies, and specialists who will be able to work in the nuclear industry over the long term”, said an AIDA representative.
Today, Kazakhstan faces the task of creating conditions under which domestic companies can consistently progress from potential suppliers to qualified participants in the nuclear industry supply chain.
AIDA will continue its work to develop professional dialogue, industrial cooperation, and interaction between Kazakhstani enterprises, the scientific community, and international partners.
The future of nuclear energy is not only about energy. It is about technologies, competencies, and new opportunities for the development of Kazakhstan’s economy.
