"For gasification of the central and northern regions, the Government has worked out two main options: the first is the West-North-Center main gas pipeline on the Kartaly-Tobyl-Kokshetau-Astana route, where gas supplies were expected from Kostanay, the second - the Saryarka main gas pipeline on the route Kyzylorda-Zhezkazgan-Karaganda-Temirtau-Astana-Kokshetau-Petropavlovsk. The project "Saryarka" will ensure the greatest coverage of gas supply at a comparable cost," - said Magzum Mirzagaliev.

He noted that a feasibility study was developed for this project by KazTransGas JSC, which received a positive conclusion from the State Expertise. According to the feasibility study, the total cost of the project is KZT370 bn.

The first phase of the Kyzylorda-Zhezkazgan-Karaganda-Astana route, the length of 1081 km, with a total cost of KZT267 bn, is being worked out in accordance with the instruction of the Head of the State. This section of the gas pipeline will supply natural gas to Astana, Karaganda, Temirtau, Zhezkazgan and nearby settlements along the main gas pipeline route," the vice-minister said.

Mirzagaliyev stressed that, according to experts, implementation of this project will give multiplicative socio-economic effects, in particular, development of infrastructure along the main gas pipeline route and new production facilities using natural gas, as well as the creation of about 800 jobs.

"To date, we have two major tasks: to develop design and estimate documentation until May and pass state expertise until July of this year, as well as to determine the scheme and terms of financing by raising funds from international financial organizations. In early July this year it is planned to start construction," the vice-minister said.
